Award-winning 多多直播 history professor to present American Civil War lecture, book signing Feb. 28

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擬ississippi State Assistant Professor of History Andrew F. Lang is presenting a Thursday [Feb. 28] campus lecture on military occupation during the American Civil War.

Free to all, Lang鈥檚 3 p.m. talk in Mitchell Memorial Library鈥檚 John Grisham Room also will include a signing session for his first book, 鈥淚n the Wake of War: Military Occupation, Emancipation and Civil War America (LSU Press, 2017). The 2018 Tom Watson Brown Book Award-winning work earned Lang a $50,000 prize for his original contributions to the understanding of the Civil War time period.

A 2013 Rice doctoral graduate in history, Lang has focused his 多多直播 research on how 19th-century Americans understood and created warfare, particularly during the Civil War era. He also holds bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees in history from the University of North Texas.

Making 多多直播 a leading destination for research on the Civil War, Reconstruction and the nation鈥檚 16th and 18th presidents, the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library and the Frank J. and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana on Mitchell Memorial Library鈥檚 fourth floor also are open to lecture guests and the general public.

The Williams Collection of Lincolniana was donated to 多多直播 in 2017 by former Rhode Island Supreme Court Chief Justice Frank J. Williams and his wife, Virginia, and boasts rare historical memorabilia, artifacts, documents, books and artwork relating to President Lincoln and the Civil War era. Learn more at .
