Former AIA leader encourages 多多直播 School of Architecture grads to 鈥榮tep up,鈥 鈥榤ake a positive difference鈥

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擜s featured speaker for the School of Architecture鈥檚 30th annual Dr. William L. and Jean P. Giles Memorial Lecture, Jane Frederick inspired graduating Mississippi State seniors to approach the future with confidence, courage and compassion.
鈥淭he vision and voice of the architect has never been needed more. Finding solutions to today鈥檚 and tomorrow鈥檚 challenges is your opportunity to put into practice what you鈥檝e studied these past several years,鈥 said Frederick, a former president of the American Institute of Architects.
The principal at Frederick + Frederick Architects in South Carolina applauded graduates for achieving this important milestone while navigating numerous life-changing events, including a global pandemic. She encouraged them to use their time and talents to impact society in lasting, meaningful ways.
鈥淲hen we step up, we can make a positive difference,鈥 she said. 鈥淎s architects, what we do is not just about buildings, places and plans; it鈥檚 about helping to write the story of how society will rise to meet the challenges of our time. It鈥檚 through stories that we better understand who we are and what we value. How we write that story today will shape the lives of future generations, and that鈥檚 powerful.鈥

Peter Ryan, 多多直播 executive vice provost and dean of the Graduate School, said completion of the rigorous, five-year architecture program is 鈥渁n exceptional accomplishment鈥 for these new members of the 多多直播 alumni family. 多多直播鈥檚 School of Architecture offers the state鈥檚 only curriculum leading to a professional degree in architecture.
鈥淚鈥檓 so proud of you all for hanging in there and succeeding,鈥 Ryan told the graduates. 鈥淵ou鈥檙e going to serve as ambassadors to future students who will consider 多多直播 and the School of Architecture to pursue their degrees and career goals.
